Horse camping at Whippoorwill Lake Campground Resort will be an enjoyable experience for both horse and rider. Sites are spacious with long gravel pads to make parking horse trailers easy. Horse picket areas are shaded to keep our equine friends cool and comfortable, and there is plenty of grass for grazing your horse.
We currently have 24 sites with electrical hook-ups and frost-free water spigots. Campers currently have access to the main campground bathhouse.
The horse camping area is secluded, with lots of grassy areas and shade trees. Portable corrals are permitted, or horses may be picket line tied.
Immediate access to over 10 miles of maintained trails, including a 3-mile trail through the woods. Ride abandoned county roads to a nearby creek for a cool drink the horses are sure to enjoy. Riders may also come for day trail riding.
TIPS FOR HORSE OWNERS
To make your riding and camping experience more enjoyable, we offer the following tips to consider:
Bring your own hay and feed.
Horses tend to colic less frequently if fed as usual when traveling.
Be sure to bring fly spray and tick repellent to keep horses comfortable.
Shoes are recommended for the terrain, which is often hilly and rocky.
NEGATIVE COGGINS PAPERS are required for all horses - no exceptions.
Don't forget to bring water and feed buckets.
There is a manure pit on the grounds.
Bring your own manure fork and muck bucket.
